prototypes

 3 & 3/4 vintage 1982 - 1995

The following gallery covers a wide range of prototypes starting with the first year of 1982, to the 2001 figures soon to be released.   Each figure will have a short explanation of its history. These are very rare figures.  Approximately 24 prototypes are made for each figure.  Many figures do not survive the testing process.  Several are still locked up in a "Hasbro Vault".   Below are a few that escaped.

Cobra officer, 1982

outback, 1987

storm shadow, 1991

Storm Shadow in Ninja Force outfit. His a an unpainted resin construction. He can not be put together at the waist.  There is only a small intention on the waist that does not allow the normal metal leg "T".  The thighs are missing the normal peg in the outside half. This peg holds the lower leg to the thigh. Instead, they put a small hole in the inside leg to put a pin on it.  Notice the holes are smaller than the normal size hole on lower leg.  It is interesting why his waist was made in a different color and glued to the rest of his body.  He was defiantly worked on. He has several drilled tiny holes in him that were filled in.  Notice he has a chest area that accommodates for the spring loaded arm mechanism.

bullet proof, 1992

Bullet Proof is a very early unprimered resin.  Notice he has no holes drilled for the screws or his pivoting joints.  For some reason, his left upper bicep half was done in a different color.  Still un drilled.  Notice the engineering bag.  It calls him "Fed. Marshal".  There is no explanation for the "EXPO." or "MF" writing on the bag.

gung ho, 1992

Gung Ho is mostly an unprimered resin prototype.  Only his head was primered as well as his back pack. The black rubber o-rings around his arms are to keep the rivets from falling out.  The rivets were never smashed in place.  Hence, you can slip them right out of his arms. Notice the back pack has a round cylinder protruding out of it.  Not the molded peg we are use to seeing.

firefly, 1992

mutt, 1992

Mutt is mostly made of unprimered resin.  However, the engineer started to primer his left upper thigh. Notice the various "tree stems" still connected to his legs, biceps and neck.  He comes with a resin gun that is slightly different than production.
